The case involving the missing taxi driver has taken a fresh twist as detectives discovered a body believed to be that of Victoria Mumbua Muloki.

Detectives discovered the body at the Nairobi City Mortuary following an intense interrogation session with the main suspect in the case.

As per investigations, the body was found in a thicket next to a road in Lari, Kiambu County and was booked on September 29.

Mumbua’s discovery is believed to be down to intense investigations from Criminal Intelligence and Research Bureau detectives, who did their best to track down the main suspect in the case.

The main suspect who is believed to have committed similar offences in the past, took detectives to the site where he allegedly left the victim’s body.

Mumbua, a Mombasa-based taxi driver, went missing on September 27 after accepting a trip request from a Kenyan who wanted to be taken from Mombasa to Samburu.

Two days after that request, police arrested the 33-year-old suspect at the Pipeline Junction along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway as he was driving a white Nissan Serena, believed to belong to Mumbua.

What ensued after the suspect’s arrest was a series of contradicting reports, after Muloki’s mother Anne Kanini received information that her daughter had been found injured and unconscious in Migori county and would be airlifted back to Mombasa.

Hours after the update, however, neither the family nor the media had received further information on Mumbua’s whereabouts, sparking concern.

It became increasingly evident that Mumbua’s family had fallen for a hoax after the victim’s mother revealed they had sent Ksh 20,000 to someone in Migori who said the money would facilitate Mumbua’s transportation back to Mombasa.

The caller switched off their phone after receiving the  Ksh 20,000 from Mumbua’s family, who were left guessing about the fate of their kin, particularly because police spokesperson Resila Onyango also appeared to corroborate reports that the taxi driver had been found.

The victim’s parents have since been notified of the update and are set to travel to Nairobi for identification. A post-mortem is yet to be conducted to discover the cause of the victim’s death.
