TSC Clarifies Locking 46,000 Teachers From Job Recruitment

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Thursday dismissed claims that it locked over 46,000 Kenyans from recruitment as teachers.

In a brief statement, TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nacy Macharia clarified that the commission was experiencing technical challenges that affected the recruitment portal.

Macharia further revealed that attempts to restore normalcy were underway and urged potential applicants to exercise patience.

“We regret to inform you that we are currently experiencing technical challenges affecting the teacher recruitment portal,” the commission noted.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and kindly request your patience as we work diligently to restore the portal as soon as possible.”

TSC was forced to clarify the matter after several Kenyans took to social media to vent their frustrations about the inaccessibility of the portal amidst the looming deadline.

“Please tell us what is happening with your website. Have been trying to log in since yesterday, but it is not possible. The deadline for job applications is Monday, and I can’t log in,” claimed one of the applicants.

While expressing their concerns, Kenyans called on the Commission to swiftly address the matter with some attributing the portal hitch to a scheme by TSC to lock others from application.

“How can the commission advertise for online job recruitment yet the website is shut down?” questioned another online user.

The technical hitch in TSC’s portal comes two days after the Commission advertised a mass recruitment of 46,000 teachers across primary, junior secondary and secondary schools under permanent and pensionable terms.

TSC in its notice stated that 6,000 positions were available for primary school teachers,39,550 for junior secondary schools and 450 for secondary schools.

“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Teachers Service Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke, under ‘Careers’ or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke,” read the notice.
