Morara Kebaso Reveals Intrigues Before Being Clobbered at Bomas

Lawyer and political activist Morara Kebaso on Monday explained how his attack at the Bomas of Kenya during the public participation exercise on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had been planned.

While appearing on Spice FM, Kebaso noted that he believed that plans of his attack were already made even before he arrived at the venue and security compromised.

The activist added that he was hit by more than 30 metallic chairs even though he had only gone in as a regular Kenyan to contribute his views on the public exercise.

“It seems plans had been made much earlier that I would be attacked. It’s the public that demanded that I speak but it was not the wish of the emcee, TJ Kajwang’, that I speak. I was cornered, my bodyguard was injured and I was hit by more than 30 metallic chairs,” Morara revealed.

‘’It is now that I am juggling memory to see where I got it wrong and I think were enough red flags that I should have seen that I did not see. We fall, we rise, we learn,’’ he added.

Kebaso also revealed that when he arrived at the Bomas of Kenya, he was blocked by the police and it was until the members of the public intervened that he was allowed to gain entry. He added that soon after entry into the compound, he was still denied access to the venue by officers he claimed were from the General Service Unit (GSU).

‘’I had announced that I would go for the public participation exercise and my position was that we should impeach both the President and the deputy. Having made this position known, some people were uncomfortable with that,’’ he added.

According to him, the officers at the Bomas of Kenya only allowed him in after he sought intervention from one senior police officer stationed at one of the entry doors who allowed him to enter on the condition that he be accompanied by one person.

Morara narrated that his security was compromised when only one security agent of his detail was allowed to accompany him, further raising eyebrows about the alleged intention to harm him.

‘’When I returned to the first door, I found a high-ranking officer, and I asked her if I would like to go in and she told me that I could only enter with one person and I think that that is where my security was compromised,’’ he narrated.

‘’I don’t know whether the police intended to compromise my security but I was only allowed in with one person,’’ he added.

Morara also recounted that some goons at the venue came from behind the dais and threw chairs at him, injuring his security and himself. He was left unable to move.

He added that his attempts to escape were made futile with exits locked. Morara indicated that he already knew the people who incited the goons to attack him.

‘’I listened to other people raise their opinions and when I raised my hand, the public pointed at me and demanded that I speak but TJ Kajwang’ refused saying that I wanted to disrupt the meeting. I stood up and said, ‘No, give me the microphone.’ Suddenly some goons came from behind the dias to cause the chaos throwing chairs at me,’’ Morara added.

Yesterday, Kebaso made his first public appearance appearing frail and demanding that Police IG Douglas Kanja arrest individuals who attacked him insisting that the footage was televised.

They have urged the government to investigate the incident, arrest the assailants and provide Morara Kebaso with police protection due to threats against his life following the assault.
