Optimizing the Economics of Sports to Dominate SportsBiz Forum in Kigali this September

African sports stakeholders will meet in Kigali, Rwanda this September for the inaugural SportsBiz Africa Forum which will set the continent’s strategy in fostering investment and management of the industry.

On 26-28th September, the SportsBiz Africa forum themed ‘Nexus between Sports and Business towards Africa’ will host sports personalities, managers, professionals, and investors to meet and discuss how to improve the economic viability of the sector. The forum will seek to formulate ideas to grow the sports industry in order to promote economic growth and additional employment in alignment with policy frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, the AU Agenda 2063, and the Rwanda Vision 2050.The sports industry in Africa suffers from insufficient investment mainly due to inadequate government support; therefore, it has been decided that private investment will certainly be the way forward to reviving sports in the continent.“Participants will engage in discussions, develop strategies, conduct research, offer training, and host sessions focused on off-field programs and activities that facilitate profitable sports events,” SportsBiz Africa said in a statement.

The continent’s sports sector also experiences difficulties in technological and infrastructural developments. This has led to diminished skills and talent stagnation which makes it easier for foreign sports’ associations to poach the best personalities from Africa.

The SportsBiz forum will highlight innovative methods of retaining sports talents in Africa to create a stronger foundation that will inspire future generations of sports personalities. The forum will identify the opportunities, giving investors a clearer picture of what profitable returns they can receive from the sector.

The forum aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063’s aspiration for a prosperous Africa, based on inclusive growth and sustainable development. The forum aims to promote a high standard of living, quality of life, and wellbeing for all citizens through income generation, job creation, and decent work. It will contribute to continental economic transformation through economic diversification and resilience, and to the development of the hospitality and tourism industries.

The Kigali forum will also allow sports’ management players to collaborate on broadening their focus from localized leagues to more intercontinental tournaments that will arouse interest from global audiences. This will further diversify the continent’s opportunities for tourism and sponsorships from foreign giant corporations.
