ODM Announces New Leadership as Raila Focuses on AUC

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Management Committee on Wednesday resolved to appoint Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to act on behalf of party leader Raila Odinga as chairperson of the party committee as he focuses on his African Union Commission (AUC) bid.

ODM in a statement revealed that the decision was reached following a meeting chaired by the former Prime Minister to deliberate on internal party affairs and matters affecting Kenyans at large.

According to the party Secretary General, such regular meetings allowed them to review the current state of affairs as a party founded on the values of democracy and multi-party democracy.

“There is therefore no need for the sort of speculation, innuendo and propaganda that surround our meetings,” Sifuna revealed.

The party in its announcement, also summoned a section of party members from Kakamega County including Governor Fernandes Barasa following in-house party wrangles witnessed at the County Assembly.

ODM accused Barasa of fuelling rivalry among the party politicians in Kakamega by rallying a section of the members against the designated Majority Leader in the County Assembly, Geoffrey Ondiro.

“Our directive has however been repeatedly frustrated by individuals led by the County Governor, the Speaker and the former leader of Majority Hon Maina,” Sifuna stated.

“The Committee has therefore resolved to summon the three to appear before it at a date to be communicated.”

The party further designated the party deputy leaders, Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi to resolve party wrangles in Kilifi County.
