Criminals Abandon Contraband to Evade Police Capture in High Speed Chase

Drug peddlers transporting marijuana using a motorcycle in Busia  County were forced to abandon their stash and run away after being cornered by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

The DCI in a post communicated that its officers acting on a tip off from members of the public, launched an operation and pursued the suspects transporting marijuana along the Butula-Matungu Road.

However, once the suspects realised they were being trailed by the sleuths, they quickly changed their course, trying to avoid being apprehended.

The officers, however were relentless and pursued them onto Benga University Road. Feeling that they were running out of options, the traffickers hastily offloaded their cargo at the roadside, disguised beneath a stack of second-hand clothing.

The DCI officers then recovered 1,800 rolls of 45-centimetre-long marijuana, valued at approximately Ksh1.8 million.

“The recovered narcotics were taken to Butula Police Station for safe custody as exhibits, as efforts to trace the elusive traffickers are underway,”  the DCI stated in its post.

On Sunday, another trafficker escaped from a bus stop, evading arrest by police who were searching passengers. The suspect was transporting a haul of Cannabis from Siaya to Mombasa.

The narcotics weighed in at a substantial 17.5 kilogram. The drugs were seized and transported to the Siaya Police Station.
