Motorists Forced to Seek Alternative Routes as University Students Stage Early Morning Strike

Transport was on Tuesday morning paralysed along Magadi Road in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County after Multimedia University students staged demonstrations along the road.

While protesting, the students accused the university administration of failing to heed their demand to restore water inside their hostels.

The furious learners charged at the school administration claiming they had gone for days without clean water, a situation they claimed was a huge inconvenience.

The students further revealed that their efforts to engage the school administration bore no fruit despite issuing a strike notice last Tuesday.

They further faulted the institution for a lack of stable internet connection which they claimed immensely hampered their learning activities.

During the demonstrations, the students barricaded the highway forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

Speaking to the press, one Multimedia University student leader noted the protests would go on until the school administration fixes the situation.

In the footage that has since circulated online, the students were recorded holding twigs as they marched through Magadi Road, disrupting traffic flow.

The latest development comes amidst a series of demonstrations across the country by university students over the new university funding model.

On September 10, Moi University students were forced to stage protests to demand the government intervenes to address the concerns raised about the new funding model.

In their protests, the learners claimed that they were forced to demonstrate after the government failed to heed their initial calls to address the matter.

Students from across various universities in Kenya termed the new funding model discriminatory and called for the entire model to be shelved.
