The duo, aged 19 and 22, were arrested by DCI officers from the Coastal Region Headquarters on allegations of being behind a spate of robberies recently witnessed within the coastal region.

They are believed to be behind a robbery incident in which they accosted a man with a panga while he was relaxing at his house. The robbery incident was captured on CCTV camera and later went viral.

The suspects are believed to be behind a series of panga attacks including a violent robbery witnessed on July 18 this year that resulted in fatal injuries to the victim.

They are also linked to three separate robberies on September 14 this year in the Majengo, Makupa and Tononoka estates of Mombasa.

Upon their arrest, detectives conducted a search inside their residence during which several items were recovered.

Among the items recovered from the two accused individuals’ houses included one panga, three knives, two assorted mobile phones, two backpacks and an ID card.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations extends his sincere appreciation to members of the public for their unwavering support in the fight against crime,” noted the detectives.

“The DCI also sends a stern warning to would-be criminals that no resources will be spared in the fight against their unlawful ways.”

Detectives were forced into action after a video emerged online depicting two suspected criminals attacking a coastal resident outside his house.

In the CCTV footage that has since gone viral, two machete-wielding gangs were captured alighting from a motorcycle before attacking the resident.

The video further showed the suspected gang members confronting the resident before making away with some of his belongings.

Following a public uproar, coast region DCI officers intervened and arrested the two suspects.
