Grief mixed with shock engulfed members of 2NK Deposit Taking (DT) Sacco after the death of Godfrey Gachoki Wairia, a board member, on the night of Friday after attending the Sacco’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday held at the ACK Hall in Nyeri town.
Before passing away, Gachoki had spent the best part of the day participating in a special general meeting organised by the Sacco.
His death came as a shock to his colleagues who had spent the day with him in the meeting and noted that he was full of spirits.
In a tribute by the Sacco, Gachoki was praised for his immense contribution as well as the matatu industry where his influence reached.

In their official Facebook handle, 2NK DT Sacco condoled with the family of the deceased following his abrupt death observing that Gachoki played an integral role in the Sacco’s growth.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our longtime board member, Mr. Godfrey Gachoki Wairia,” the Sacco shared in a statement on Saturday.
“Wairia suddenly passed on yesterday night after actively participating in a successful Sacco Special General meeting.”
Members and colleagues mourned the deceased as an astute leader who contributed greatly to the growth of the Sacco.
“We are thankful for his outstanding leadership, friendship, guidance, and wisdom. He will be greatly missed by the 2NK DT Sacco family, the matatu industry and his community,” 2NK DT Sacco added.
The untimely passing away of the board member has left a leadership gap in the Sacco however his legacy of servant leadership will live on.
The cause of his death has not yet been established but more information about funeral arrangements will be shared by the immediate family.
In the AGM, members resolved to cap ownership of vehicles by individual members to a maximum of matatus to 5 and phase out old models by the end of 2024.
