The government has announced plans to auction motor vehicles and motorbikes among other items that owners have failed to pick from various police stations across the country.
Some of the items set to be auctioned are lying at various police stations in Nairobi, Meru, and Kajiado counties.
The government, as a result, secured the services of an auctioneer to handle the auctioning process.
The decision to auction the items was arrived at after obtaining a court order with the intended auction already published in the Kenya Gazette notice.

‘’Disposal of uncollected goods notice is issued pursuant to the provisions of the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38) of the laws of Kenya,’’ a notice published in the Gazette notice indicated.
Some of the items were lying at Dandora, and Shauri Moyo police stations in Nairobi, Kiserian Police station in Kajiado, and Subuiga Police Station in Meru.
At Subuiga Police station, items set for auction included motor vehicles, assorted items, and scrap metals.
The auctioneers handling the items announced a grace period of 90 days for the owners of the items to pick them up or face an auction.
At Shauri Moyo and Dandora, the intended items to be auctioned included motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and t-shirts.
The owners were given 30 days to move in and claim their assets failure to which they will be auctioned to the public.
Many Kenyans are often faced with difficulties in releasing their confiscated items from Police stations over legal hurdles and the high cost of securing the release.
As a result, many are forced to abandon the items over related costs and instead opt to leave them to rot at various police stations.
