Kenya Power Switches Off Power in 6 Counties [LIST]

More than 5 counties are currently experiencing a blackout as a result of interruptions in power supply today, Monday, September 30, 2024.

This comes after Kenya Power announced plans to switch off the power supply in parts of the six counties, a move that will likely impact businesses and households within those areas.

The six counties include Kericho, Bomet, Nyamira, Kisii, Migori, and Homa Bay, all from Rift Valley and the Nyanza regions.

According to Kenya Power, the move to switch off power in the counties is to allow scheduled maintenance activities to improve supply reliability.

”Kenya Power will switch off power supply in parts of Kericho, Bomet, Nyamira, Kisii, Migori and Homa Bay counties on Monday, 30th September 2024 to undertake maintenance activities that are geared towards improving supply reliability,’’ Kenya Power shared in a statement.

The power supply in the affected areas is set to run from 7:00 am in the morning to 5:00 pm in the evening, a total of nine hours.

”To facilitate this important exercise, power supply will be interrupted in the below-mentioned areas from 7 am to 5 pm,’’ the statement added.

Notable important business areas that are set to be affected by the decision to switch off the power supply include the whole of Kisii town and Kabianga University.

Several tea processing factories within Kericho County are also set to be affected by the interruptions.

Other important areas that will be in the dark during the maintenance period include Homabay Town, Migori Town, and areas along the Kenya-Tanzania border of Kehancha and Isebania.

This comes in the wake of recent power outages that were witnessed in the country across the months of September and August.

Kenya Power linked the outages to technical hitches along the national grid at the Suswa Transmission line in Narok County.
