Oscar Sudi Reveals Details on Gachagua Replacement

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Wednesday moved to quell potential disquiet that might erupt in Mt. Kenya over the impeachment motion tabled against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua assuring the vote rich region that in the event the second in command is ousted, his replacement will still come from the region.

In a post on his official handles, Sudi, a close ally of President William Ruto, claimed the Mt. Kenya region is at the centre of the Kenya Kwanza government’s plans and it was very unlikely for the region to be isolated.

Sudi, who has been at loggerheads with Gachagua in the recent past, stated President William Ruto’s wing of the Kenya Kwanza government has no issue with Mt.Kenya leaders except the DP.

“No one has an issue with the majority of leaders from the mountain, save for one.  Even his replacement will surely come from the mountain. Sure bet.” the MP posted.

This comes after Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse on Tuesday filed a motion to impeach DP Gachagua which was subsequently supported by 291 lawmakers, surpassing the 117 threshold needed to impeach a Deputy president.

A section of Mt.Kenya leaders have blamed President William Ruto for allegedly instigating Gachagua’s impeachment. However, even as the motion gains momentum, President Ruto has remained mum on the issue, leaving Gachagua’s camp and Kenyans in general guessing.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, a section of Mt Kenya leaders from Murang’a County led by Senator Joe Nyutu questioned Ruto’s silence and alleged the impeachment motion is a political witch hunt move aimed at clipping Gachagua’s wings ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This (Gachagua’s impeachment) would not have happened without Ruto’s blessing. They should know that divorcing Gachagua is divorcing the mountain,” Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu charged.

“We advocate for dialogue, let the two leaders sort out their issues amicably,”  Senator Nyutu said.

The impeachment motion against Gachagua accuses the deputy president of several violations of the constitution including fanning ethnic tension through making careless utterances, misuse of his authority and intimidation of state officers.

The DP also stands accused of exploiting his position to advance his own personal business interests and acquiring wealth unlawfully.

Gachagua who is yet to react to the impeachment motion tabled on Tuesday had previously revealed that he was ready for the outcome.
