DCI Summons Gachagua Ally Over Alleged Plans to Hire Goons

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina faces serious allegations as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned her over purported plans to incite chaos during a public participation exercise related to the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The summons adds a volatile layer to an already contentious political climate as the public participation session approaches.

Maina disclosed on social media that she received a summons requiring her presence at the Kirinyaga County DCI offices on Thursday, October 3, at 10:00 a.m.

Njeri posted the text message from the police which stated, “Good evening Muheshimiwa, there are serious allegations against you that you are mobilising goons to cause chaos on Friday during public participation on the DP impeachment motion.”

The summons, issued by Central Regional Criminal Investigation Officer Dr. Abraham Mugambi, raises questions about the political motivations behind such actions.

Describing the summons as a witch hunt, Maina asserted that it is an intimidation tactic aimed at dissuading Kirinyaga residents, many of whom are staunch supporters of Deputy President Gachagua, from participating in the Friday meeting.

“They want to cause fear to residents of Kirinyaga County not to attend Friday’s public participation at Kirinyaga Central Constituency hall,” Maina stated emphatically.

The public participation event is crucial, as it allows citizens to voice their opinions on Gachagua’s impeachment, scheduled for the same day. Maina remains undeterred, urging her constituents to exercise their democratic rights.

“I will continue telling the people of Kirinyaga to come out in large numbers on Friday and express their constitutional right,” she asserted, signalling her commitment to the cause despite the looming threats.

The political tension surrounding Gachagua’s potential impeachment has intensified in recent weeks, culminating in the National Assembly’s invitation for public input on the motion.

Kenyans can share their views via email or in person at Parliament before the October 5 cut off date. Public hearings will occur on October 4 across all counties, with the gathered views expected to play a significant role in shaping the outcome of the impeachment motion.

Maina’s vocal support for Gachagua during the tumultuous period preceding the impeachment motion underscores her position as a key player in this unfolding drama. Her defiance in the face of allegations and attempts at intimidation could galvanise support not only for Gachagua but also for her political career.
