Why Teachers Won’t Land 46,000 TSC Jobs Just Yet

Kenyans are furious as thousands of teachers find themselves locked out of applying for 46,000 permanent jobs advertised by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

With the application deadline looming on Monday, October 7, frustrated applicants have taken to social media to express their outrage over the inaccessible online application portal. Many accuse the TSC of sabotage, claiming the system failure is a deliberate attempt to hinder their applications.

Since the job advertisement was announced, the TSC’s website has been inundated with traffic, causing numerous applicants to encounter persistent error messages.

Kenyans.co.ke attempted to access the portal and faced the same issue. An error notification read, “An error occurred. Sorry, the page you are looking for is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

One teacher, who has been trying to log in for nearly a day, vented his frustration on social media. He tweeted, “Please tell us what is happening with your website. Have been trying to log in since yesterday, but it is not possible. The deadline for job applications is Monday, and I can’t log in.”

This sentiment was echoed by others, with one user lamenting, “Whoever you contracted in your ICT department is a big letdown to the teachers who are trying to apply for the recently advertised jobs.” Another user added, “How can the commission advertise for online job recruitment yet the website is shut down?”

On October 1, the TSC issued a notice inviting applications for 6,000 positions in primary schools, 39,550 in junior secondary schools, and 450 in secondary schools. The commission directed candidates to apply through its official website, www.tsc.go.ke, under the ‘Careers’ section or via teachersonline.tsc.go.ke, before the upcoming deadline.

Additionally, the TSC clarified that serving interns are expected to apply within their current counties or workstations and will only need to present their identity cards during the verification process.

As the clock ticks down to the application deadline, the urgency and anxiety among teachers intensify. Many are questioning the competence of the TSC’s ICT infrastructure. The recruitment process, which is advertised as free of charge, has also raised concerns about potential fraudsters preying on vulnerable applicants seeking assistance.

Despite the mounting frustration and outcry from thousands of potential applicants, the TSC has yet to address the complaints or provide any updates regarding the ongoing issues with its application portal.
