County Embarks on Construction of Ksh500M Project

The County Government of Kiambu in collaboration with the national government, has kickstarted the process of the construction of an industrial park expected to cost Ksh500 million.

Kiambu is constructing a County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Waruhiu Agricultural Training Centre in Githunguri Sub-County. The park is anticipated to support the marketing and value addition to fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi officially launched the facility whose construction is already underway. The governor lauded the ongoing construction, saying it reflects the county’s desire for growth.

“Since its launch in May, the visible progress on the ground demonstrates our commitment to positioning Kiambu as a prime investment destination”, Wamatangi said.

According to the governor, the national government has already allocated Ksh 250 million towards the project with the county government expected to channel the remaining Ksh250 million in due course.

The governor reveals that the project aligns with the national government’s development blueprint and is expected to go a long way in helping the devolved unit achieve its long term objectives.

The park sitting on a 10-acre piece of land will serve as a hub for agricultural processing and manufacturing, creating a vital link between farmers,  industries, and markets.

The governor has also backed the initiative to create jobs for young people, boost exports, and strengthen Kiambu’s economy. Additionally, farmers will have opportunities to learn from experts about various agricultural practices.

In May, the national government announced the release of Ksh 1.12 billion for the construction of industrial parks. Releasing the funds, former Trade Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said the funds were meant for 17 counties implementing the projects under phase one of the program.

“My ministry-in consultation with the Council of Governors and county-based implementation organs- will issue an expression of interest for the management of CAIPs in support of their operationalization,” Miano said.

Ruto’s government is optimistic that the CAIPS will help grow industrialization, boost incomes to provide a quality of life to all Kenyans by 2030 in a clean and secure environment.

President William Ruto has stated that the parks will not only help spur the growth of manufacturing through fostering agro-industries but also enhance competitiveness in the agriculture sector.

The Head of State emphasized that these projects will create jobs and boost foreign exchange as farmers increase their incomes.
