ODM Clarifies Its Stance on DP Gachagua Impeachment

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Deputy Leader Simba Arati has dismissed reports alleging the political outfit’s hand in the plot to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The Kisii governor while addressing the ODM party delegation in Kisii, clarified that the final decision on the deputy president’s fate lies with MPs and that the ODM had nothing against the second in command.

According to Arati, the opposition party would accept the outcome of the special motion which MPs are expected to vote on.

“As ODM party members, we do not say that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should be dismissed but since the matter is before parliamentarians,” Arati clarified.

“We do not have anything to do with it, we just want the government to do its role and we as ODM remain an intact party. We have helped President William Ruto to stabilise his administration and that is all,” the governor stated.

Governor Simba Arati officiated the issuance of prosthetic limbs to several beneficiaries at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).

Simba Arati further dismissed allegations that the ODM party had entered into a coalition deal with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

“Let nobody come here and claim that we are in Kenya Kwanza, we are not in Kenya Kwanza, we are in ODM,” Arati clarified.

According to Arati, the opposition party only engaged President Ruto’s administration once, that was when the government was facing immense challenges.

Arati’s sentiments come even as the plot to impeach the deputy president continues to thicken with the process currently undergoing public participation.

The process, during the two days which it has been conducted, has been marred by challenges which forced the National Assembly to extend the exercise by a day.

On Friday, the National Assembly through its clerk directed that the exercise be extended to October 5 to factor in the hiccups witnessed on Friday.

Several disruptions were witnessed, particularly in the Mt Kenya counties of Kiambu, Nyeri, and Murang’a where the public participation exercises were suspended temporarily following protests by a section of residents.
